Project "Taking Kites all over the world" 2013

"Taking Kites all over the world"

A tradition of flying kites with personal and group images of our dreams for a better world.

Description
Students make kites to fly as a massive tribute dedicated to advancing the cultural and social dialog, a symbol of bridging the gap and understanding the "other." This will hopefully become a continuous tradition of flying kites with personal and group images of our dreams for a better world, a world of co-existence, tolerance, acceptance of the "other" and peace.
"It is important in today's political climate that we express to the world that peace is within our grasp," said Adi Yekutieli, founder of the 10,000 Kites Project. Yekutieli, an artist, says he envisions "organized groups a wide spectrum of groups, adults, children, Israeli, Palestinian, citizens around the world coming together and each person will hold aloft a kite which he or she has decorated, as a symbol of dialogue, brotherhood and understanding of the other side. Each participant will be flying a kite with his or her thoughts, fears, dreams, and hopes."
Kites will be flown on the March Equinox.

Expected outcomes
The main outcome is the enhancement of important values, such as tolerance, acceptance of the "other", co-existence, listening, choosing dialog over force, universal solidarity etc. Also the workshops offer a satisfying venue for expressing feeling that is more acceptable and fruitful than violence.

Group contributions to others and/or the planet:
Being a part of a universal movement for co-existence and tolerance and participating in projects that include people from all over the world may contribute to the internalization of the above values and to the self-empowerment of the participants. The more children will participate in such a movement and receive such education the better this world will be.

We decided to take part in this project as we considered that it was very interesting and massive. We have learnt the biography and creative work of Januzs Korczak. We got to know closer with his views and way of thinking. We have even chosen some favorite quotes by Januzs Korczak. We made kites ourselves, draw some pictures depicting our dreams and wrote different quotes. We went to an orphanage  and took this kites with orphans. We believe that all thought are material and our dreams will come true. We’d like orphans’ dreams also come true and they have a family.
We took kites on the 21st of March at 12 p. m. in front of our school. We took our kites altogether at the same time with the participants from 123 countries. We created such a dialogue between different countries and believe that children’s voices and believes will always faire and sincere.
